Its driving me crazy.How do i download songs into my ipod?

i downloaded ares, and the songs. My songs are in my library and stuff. Also, i plugged in my ipod. I click where it says ipod. What pops up is device, control panel and etc. it does not have manual manage on what so ever. How do i get to it. Every time i think i did everything correctly, i would unplug my ipod and notice that i have no songs what so ever, its empty...Ive been trying for almost 2-weeks now. So please is there anyone who is a wiz at these kind of things and can politely give me step by step instructions. Where would i have to drag my songs? What do i have to download. I need the whole process to make sure i have done it correctly.
